Pella’s Commitment to Environmental Stewardship in Westerly, Rhode Island

Published on

A proud environmental steward, Pella recognizes its responsibility to look for ways to develop products and work in a way that respects and protects our natural resources. The company practices environmental stewardship by making energy-efficient products, responsibly utilizing natural resources and recycling.

Energy-Efficient Products

For beginners, Pella’s replacement windows, doors and glass options are designed with innovative solutions to conserve energy. Windows and doors can be a huge source of heat loss in a home. Heat can sneak out in the winter or be allowed in during the summer, causing your furnace or air conditioner to work more frequently and consumer more energy.

The framework plays a crucial role in how well your windows or doors insulate your home. If you are searching for wood windows, wood is a natural insulator, making you comfortable in your home during every season. Air chambers inside Pella’s vinyl windows and patio doors lessen heat loss and sound transmission to help keep your home quieter and more comfortable every month.

Natural Resources

Pella uses wood from vendors who practice responsible harvest and replenishment. Steps are taken through the design and manufacturing process to enhance yield from the lumber. Pella also works with companies to recycle or reclaim the sawdust that is produced throughout the manufacturing process.

The Practices

It’s not just the windows and doors built, but the way they are built. Here are just a few of the ways Pella performs positive environmental business practices:

  • Recycling Manufacturing Materials – Most materials used in the process of making replacement windows or doors can be recycled. Whether it’s used for Pella’s own use or for reuse by other companies, items such as wood, metal, glass, vinyl, plastic, screen cloth, oil, batteries, paper, cardboard, electronics and more are appropriately recycled to avoid waste.

  • Using Recycled Material in Products – Pella works with suppliers who incorporate post-consumer recycled materials such as glass and aluminum into raw materials utilized by Pella to produce products.

  • Recycling Glass – Pella takes the surplus glass and broken glass to a recycling vendor where it is used to make products such as bottles, fiberglass countertops, carpet, tile and reflective paint for highways.

There are more than a few examples of how Pella is dedicated to responsible use of our natural resources, and for the eighth time, they were named the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year in 2015.
